10km return hike in Warburton; dog and child friendly
Details
Join me for a relaxed loop hike in the picturesque town of Warburton.
Meeting point: Millgrove Recreation Reserve
Start time: 11am
Distance: Approx. 10 km
Duration: Approx. 3.5 hours
Difficulty: Easy
Warburton is a picturesque town around 1.5 hours from Melbourne. From our meeting point, we will follow the Warburton Rail Trail and the Birrarung River to our lunch spot, before returning along the other side of the river.
It will be a lovely time of year to explore the area. You may spot ducks swimming in the Yarra, and will pass through ferns and lovely landscape.
A flat walk on well-established paths, we’ll walk at a relaxed/moderate pace. This walk is family friendly and suitable for children and dogs (as long as your dog is socialised and is on a lead).
Public toilets are available along the way.
If the forecast is hot, you may like to bring your swimwear to take a dip in the river after lunch. Only do so at your own risk and if you are a competent swimmer - rivers can be dangerous.
What to bring: Appropriate footwear, plenty of water and a picnic lunch.
If you would like to make the most of your time in Warburton after the hike:
• Explore further trails around the area, such as the La La Falls hike or the stunning Redwood Forest.
• Browse through local shops; antiques, holistic health, gourmet treats, wine bar, coffee shops, gallery etc.
• Mt Donna Buang is nearby; the summit provides fabulous views of the region, and an opportunity partway up to collect fresh spring water from the mountain.
• The Alpine Hotel has reasonably priced rooms and good food.
