Rob Farley - Ensuring your ELT integrity in Fabric SQL DB and DW with APPLY
Possibly the most important consideration in transforms for data analysis is to make sure you don’t inadvertently filter out data or load data multiple times. Sadly, whether transforms are happening in pipelines, Spark, or T-SQL, it is possible to either increase or decrease the number of rows in a table because of the way you perform joins. However, T-SQL’s APPLY can offer a solution, and now that Fabric SQL DB has joined the family of services, there is another strong platform for powerful ELT patterns using T-SQL as the transform layer. If you thought APPLY was simply to allow table-valued functions to be called, you need to reconsider this powerful tool and start creating elegant, verifiable, fast transforms that leverage the Fabric SQL DB engine.
