### Speakers and Talks
#### Karel Alfonso — Block (Square)
Talk: Rolling Out Iceberg at Scale
Abstract:
As modern data architectures evolve, Apache Iceberg is redefining how organizations manage large, fast-moving datasets. Karel will share how Block (Square) rolled out Iceberg in production, exploring what worked, what didn’t, and the lessons learned from building a scalable, performant, and reliable data foundation. Expect real-world insights on Iceberg’s role in powering analytics and streaming use cases.

#### Doug Reith — Pepperstone
Talk: Microcaching: Tackling Data Duplication and Error Recovery
Abstract:
In the first part of the session, Doug will present Pepperstone's operating context, the challenges faced, and the solutions developed to address business needs. He will review representative architectural diagrams and detail our main data platform components. This section also covers design elements deemed essential from the outset and those we have managed without.
In the second part, Doug will discuss areas requiring further development to meet future market demands and customer expectations. Topics include software engineering responsibilities in building event-driven applications, designing pipelines for competitive advantage, and leveraging emerging AI agents.

#### Erik Schumann — Nord L/B
Talk: Data Lineage in Motion: Understanding Your Streams
Abstract:
Data lineage is more than compliance, it’s about trust, transparency, and insight. Erik will explore how the German bank Nord L/B leverages Kafka and Flink to trace data flow from source to sink, ensuring reliability across a distributed system. He’ll demonstrate how modern lineage tracking supports debugging, governance, and observability for teams managing complex streaming infrastructures.
