Design Thinking with Legal Hackers Melbourne

Details
"The main tenet of design thinking is empathy for the people you’re trying to design for"
- David Kelley, IDEO
In our first 2019 meetup, we will explore the application of 'design thinking' in the legal industry. We have an outstanding lineup of speakers:
- Gary Cazalet from Melbourne Law School (MLS) on "The future Lawyer - Design Thinking in Legal from an education perspective".
Gary will discuss his and MLS's role in preparing the next generation of lawyers for the changing nature of legal service delivery. He will share some of his own experiences at Stanford’s D-School
- Melissa Lyon from Hive Legal on "Legal Design in practice – How Hive Legal is using design thinking to improve the experience for its clients and its team"
Hear about how Hive Legal is using design thinking to identify innovative projects and opportunities, create client offerings, collaborate with clients on document design and legal processes and to continue to improve Hive's clients’ and team’s experience of working with Hive.
- Cathryn Nolan from RMIT University and Nolan Legal on "Design Doing"
Design thinking is ultimately about ‘design doing’ – identifying wicked problems, deeply understanding them from a human centred perspective, then identifying desirable, feasible and viable solutions to those problems through experimentation and iteration. Cathryn Nolan, lawyer, design thinking consultant, and RMIT Adjunct Lecturer (JD & MBA programs) will take you through a quick and fun exercise which will help you experience what it’s like to ‘do design thinking’ in a collaborative environment and, through design doing, gain a greater understanding of the reasons design thinkers collaborate in diverse teams, experiment and iterate.
Looking forward to catching up with everyone!
