Religion And The Problem of Suffering

Details

Human beings suffer in different ways; psychological suffering, physical pain, lack of freedom and opportunity disease and other ways. Why do we suffer? How can we suffer well? Can we understand or overcome suffering?

Religion and religious belief has often been presented as a way of coping with, understanding, and even overcoming suffering. What are some ways that religions reflect on the meaning of suffering? How have religions talked about it? How can we, as contemporary persons, understand what is said about suffering in religious thought so as to gain from it? Are religious reflections on suffering relevant to our experience of it today?

These questions and others will be asked at this meetup. This is the first meetup suggested and organised by Danny and Glen (thanks guys).

Please feel free to come along early (600pm) if you would like to have dinner, the discussion will begin at 630pm.
