Discussing current events through the lens of wisdom, integrity and optimism
Details
In this short daily event we will discuss global events touching on our 3 core values:
- Wisdom
- Integrity
- Optimism
Part of this group is about promoting peace on Earth and my view is that understanding current events from different cultural viewpoints helps one develop a "global mindset".
That's why I have subscribed to the following publications:
- The Australian
- NZ Herald
- The Guardian
- New York Times
- Washington Post
- The Globe and Mail
- The Guardian (Nigeria)
- Le Monde
- South China Morning Post
- Al Jazeera
- The Jerusalem Post
- RT
- Latin News
- Daily Maverick
- China Daily
- DW
- (Possibly more to come)
Basically we will look at major global events through the eyes of people from different parts of the world and use the events to affirm our core values of wisdom, integrity and optimism.
This discussion is facilitated by Thomas (Whimsy) who tries to instil an positive attitude in the community which assumes that each person is essentially good and therefore the future of humanity is likely to be good also.
We are attempting to build here a robust platform for civil discourse but there needs to be some common ground (agreement about certain fundamental principles) - that the common purpose for these meetings is to mutual understanding for peace on Earth.
People from any and all faiths are welcome here (I myself am catholic). You are welcome to share your beliefs in the spirit of common humanity but please do so in good faith and not with intention to proselytise people. Dogma such as from the Bible or the Quran may be introduced but please do not be absolutist or attempt to override our robust civil discourse platform with your beliefs.
Furthermore please do not shout, abuse, shame, belittle or attempt to marginalise others - A good way to do this is to practice self-regulation by monitoring your breathing during sensitive topics.
If you feel strongly about an issue think about how to articulate your position using strong reasoning (with the greater good in mind) - and always be open to patiently understanding other positions too!
