What we’re about
Science Fiction. Space faring missions, weird aliens and ray guns. Themes like time travel, the universe, and even whole alien worlds. Most people love it, and it features in cinema, literature and so on. But did you know its often more than that? This genre rose to prominence in the mid-1950s, and incidentally so did this club.
And since that time, people have been filled with stories, and dreaming about concepts that were once totally impossible. And, people have gradually been learning and incorporating new concepts into human knowledge. Science fiction has, and still plays a role, in shaping that awareness, and in the trends and developments of science and technology, and in the people who read or watch it! Many of these stories have become widely known and a part of cultural history.

We are a collection of Science Fiction fans, who has met on a regular (or at times semi regular) basis for many years. It is a place where people who enjoy science fiction and fantasy meet to discuss their love of books, TV, film and coffee.
Current and ex members have been associated with Fanzines, Critical groups, Publication bodies, authors, etc. And our club Fanzine, Ethel has been in circulation for many years.
Meetings are semi-informal, anything is discussable as long as it is not too political and relevant to science fiction. Meetings take place on the Third Friday of Each Month- August 15th of this month.
Tea, coffee and snacks/hot food will be served and purchasable as well. A gold coin on donation is appreciated.
We also love discussions; anything relevant or interesting to science fiction fans- oddball technical arguments about physics, world building visions, hypothetical scenarios and cultural evaluations (micky mouse) to pulp sf films. Or anything else.
We sometimes run special events, coinciding but outside regular meetings, and Conventions and other Fandom activities take place normally simultaneously- We have previously hosted trivia, Movie Nights, Dinner nights, Author talks, Collaborative storymaking, as well as a great deal of Humour and absurdity. There are also other groups we are connected with.
We also possess a library, with access to a great range of Science Fiction/Fantasy material. If your interested in reading or borrowing from it, we offer that opportunity to members as well.
Please come and drop in, when you can! We'd love to hear about your forages into SF or just for you to say “Hello... I exist!”.
