Hi all!
We're happy to announce a new format, along with a widening of the group's topic to search development rather than a specific search technology stack under the name Melbourne Search.
Our aim is to make the meetup more welcoming to all search developers in Melbourne who are facing similar challenges -- without losing the level of technical depth that we've come to enjoy.
Search technologies include, but are not limited to: ElasticSearch, Apache Lucene & Solr, AWS CloudSearch, Microsoft FAST, Apache Nutch.
We're also going to make the meetups more open to impromptu contributions in the form of lightning talks.
The meetups will loosely follow this structure:
Networking over pizza & beer 30 minute deep subject topic - "ElasticSearch Internals Part 1 - Recovery" 15 minute lighter topic - "Measuring & iteratively improving your search quality" 5 minute lightning talks by participants Networking & more beers You should step up and suggest topics - whether a search problem you've solved, a problem you need help solving or a general interesting case study of search development.
We've got some great talks coming up and we'll unveil them closer to the date.
In further good news, allow me to welcome Paul Smith as a full fledged organiser for the Melbourne Search meetup!
