Echuca Day Trip by V/Line + Murray River Paddle Steamer Cruise
Details
Join me for a relaxed V/Line day trip to Echuca, with a walk through town, a quick lunch stop, and a 1-hour Murray River cruise on the historic PS Canberra.
We’ll meet at Southern Cross Station in the morning and travel together by V/Line to Echuca. Once we arrive, we’ll walk toward the Port of Echuca area, stop for a quick lunch at Beechworth Bakery, then head to the riverboat dock for the paddle steamer cruise.
After the cruise, we’ll have some time to roam around the Port of Echuca, take photos, enjoy the riverfront atmosphere, and then walk back to the station for the return trip to Melbourne.
After we return to Southern Cross Station, there may be an optional casual dinner nearby for anyone who still feels like hanging around. This is completely optional, so you’re also welcome to head home once we arrive back in Melbourne.
This is a casual, low-pressure day trip. Solo attendees are very welcome. The main thing is being comfortable with a long day out by public transport and a bit of walking around town.

Rough timeline
7:15am — Meet at Southern Cross Station, outside the V/Line Tickets and Information office
7:40am — Train to Echuca
11:18am — Arrive at Echuca
11:20am — Walk toward the Port of Echuca area
11:50am — Quick lunch stop at Beechworth Bakery Echuca
Around 12:30pm — Walk to the Riverboat Dock, Watson Street, Echuca
1:00pm — Murray River Cruise boarding time
1:15pm — PS Canberra Murray River Cruise starts
2:15pm — Cruise ends
2:15pm–3:15pm — Roam around the Port of Echuca, riverfront, and take photos
3:15pm — Start walking back to Echuca Station
4:07pm — Return service from Echuca
7:29pm — Arrive back at Southern Cross Station
Around 7:30pm — Meetup ends
Afterwards — Optional casual dinner nearby for anyone interested

Everyone must pre-purchase their own cruise ticket in advance.

What to expect
- Distance: Light walking around Echuca, the Port area, and between the station/lunch/riverboat dock
- Difficulty: Easy, but it is a long day out
- Pace: Relaxed, with a few fixed transport and cruise times
- Vibe: Casual, low-pressure, friendly, and suitable for solo attendees
Important notes
Please arrive on time, as we need to catch the 7:40am V/Line service.
The cruise has a fixed start time, so the lunch stop will be fairly quick rather than a long sit-down lunch.
Boarding for the cruise starts before departure, so we’ll aim to be at the riverboat dock early.
V/Line timetables and service changes can change, so please check closer to the date. If there are major disruptions, severe weather, or any issue that makes the trip impractical, I’ll update the event.
