Captain Scott Kelly – The Sky Is Not The Limit at Palais Theatre
Details
Join me for a night with retired NASA astronaut Captain Scott Kelly at the Palais Theatre in St Kilda. Scott spent 340 days straight aboard the International Space Station — one of the longest single spaceflights by an American — and he's coming to Melbourne to talk about it. Expect stories about launches, life in orbit, coming back to Earth, and what it takes to keep going when things get hard.
We'll meet outside the gates of the Palais at 7:15pm so we can say hello before heading in together. Doors open at 7:00pm and the talk starts at 8:00pm, so there's a bit of time to chat, find each other, and get through the ticket scan without rushing.
This is a casual social meetup so we can all head along together — it isn't run by, affiliated with, or endorsed by the Palais Theatre, Ticketmaster, or the show's promoter. Please book your own ticket directly through Ticketmaster; an RSVP here doesn't include entry and isn't a ticket.
Seating is allocated, so we won't all be sitting together unless you book near me. I'm in the Stalls, Row SS, Seat 27 — if you'd like to sit nearby, book somewhere close in the Stalls when you grab your ticket. Either way, we'll regroup outside after the show.
Who this is for
- Anyone curious about space, astronauts, or the ISS — no science background needed
- People who enjoy a good live talk and a story well told
- Anyone keen for a relaxed Friday night out in St Kilda
- Coming solo? You're very welcome — plenty of people come on their own and it's an easy crowd to chat to

Timeline
- 7:15pm – Meet outside the gates of the Palais Theatre and say hello
- 7:30pm – Head in and scan your tickets at the counter
- 8:00pm – Talk starts
- After the show – Regroup outside the theatre, then anyone who's keen can head to a nearby spot on Acland or Fitzroy Street for a drink or a bite
Tickets / cost
- You book and pay for your own ticket directly through Ticketmaster — see the link above.
- Prices vary by section, so have a look at the seating map and pick what suits you.
- Seating is allocated. If you'd like to sit near me, book close to the Stalls, Row SS.
- Popular one-off shows can sell out, so it's worth booking early rather than leaving it to the night.
- Please make sure you've got your ticket sorted before the day — an RSVP here doesn't get you in.
Transport
- The Palais is on Lower Esplanade in St Kilda, right by Luna Park.
- Trams 96, 3/3a and 16 all run nearby — the 96 to Acland Street is the easiest from the city.
- Parking around St Kilda on a Friday night is limited and mostly paid or time-restricted, so public transport is the easier option if you can.
Bring
- Your ticket (on your phone is fine)
- A jacket — November evenings in Melbourne can still turn cool, especially near the bay
- Some cash or card if you're joining the optional bite/drink afterwards
Expect
- Vibe: Friendly and curious, a good mix of space nerds and casually interested people
- Group style: Come as you are, no pressure to stay for the post-show bite/drink
Important notes
- The finish time isn't confirmed yet — the venue currently lists doors at 7:00pm and an 8:00pm start with the finish listed as TBC. Please plan your trip home with a bit of flexibility.
- The Palais notes that no video, audio or professional photography is permitted unless the promoter says otherwise. Please follow all venue rules and staff instructions on the night.
- Everything about the show itself — timings, seating, refunds, entry — is up to the Palais Theatre and the promoter, not me. If something changes with the show, their info will be the accurate source.
- Please look after yourself on the night. You're joining at your own risk and you're responsible for your own ticket, belongings and getting home safely.
- If your plans change, please update your RSVP so numbers stay clear for everyone.
Other info
- If you'd rather go straight in and just meet us outside afterwards, that's completely fine — just let me know in the comments.
