Discover the Night Sky: Ask an Astronomer at Melbourne Planetarium
Details
Join me for an evening under the stars — indoors, in the comfy reclining seats of the Melbourne Planetarium at Scienceworks.
Discover the Night Sky is an adults-only night at the Planetarium hosted by astronomer Dr Tanya Hill. This month's session is Ask an Astronomer — you bring the questions, Tanya brings the answers. Expect a tour of what's currently visible in Melbourne's night sky, a bit of space news, and whatever the room is curious about, all projected across the Planetarium dome.
We'll meet outside the Planetarium gates at Scienceworks at 6:00pm, say hello, then head in together around 6:10pm to scan tickets before the 6:30pm show. The show runs an hour and the meetup wraps up when it finishes at 7:30pm.
This is a casual social meetup so we can head along together — it isn't run by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Scienceworks or Museums Victoria. Please book your own ticket directly with them; an RSVP here doesn't include entry.
Who this is for
- Anyone curious about space, stars and planets — no astronomy background needed
- People who like a relaxed, low-key weeknight outing
- Adults only — Scienceworks lists this session as 18+
- Coming solo? Very welcome. Plenty of people come on their own, and meeting at the gates beforehand makes it easy to find the group

Tickets / cost
- You book and pay for your own ticket directly with Scienceworks — there's no group booking.
- Museums Victoria currently lists tickets at $35 adult, $33 concession/senior and $30 for members. Please check the event page for the latest pricing before booking.
- Make sure you book the early show (6:30–7:30pm), not the later 8:00pm session, so we're all in the same one.
- Sessions can sell out, so it's worth booking ahead rather than turning up on the night.
Transport
- Spotswood station is on the Werribee and Williamstown lines. Museums Victoria suggests allowing about a 10 minute walk from the station.
Bring
- Your ticket

- This is an independent social meetup, not an official Scienceworks or Museums Victoria event. We're just a group going along together.
- You'll need to book your own ticket.
- Please arrive by 6:00pm so we can get in and seated together. If you're running late, head straight in and find us inside — latecomers may not be admitted once the show starts.
- Please follow all venue rules and staff instructions, and take responsibility for your own safety and belongings on the night.
- If your plans change, please update your RSVP so numbers stay clear.
