Planetarium Nights: Unseen Earth + What's in the Sky Tonight

Join me for a night under the dome at Melbourne Planetarium, where Scienceworks reopens after hours for an adults-only fulldome screening.

The 7:30pm session pairs What's in the Sky Tonight – a live, presenter-led tour of the current night sky – with Unseen Earth: Observe, Understand, Respond, a 28-minute fulldome film about how Earth observation reveals the hidden workings of our own planet. It's a lovely way to spend a Friday evening: reclined seats, a full dome overhead, and someone who really knows the sky pointing out what's up there right now.

We'll meet outside the Planetarium gates at 7:00pm for a quick hello, head inside around 7:10pm, and take our seats before the 7:30pm start. The whole thing wraps up around 8:30pm.

A couple of important things: this is a casual social meetup so we can go along together – it isn't run by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Scienceworks or Museums Victoria. You'll need to book your own ticket directly with them, and an RSVP here doesn't include entry. Scienceworks also notes that late entry into the Planetarium is not permitted, so please don't cut it fine.

Timeline

• 7:00pm – Meet outside the Planetarium gates and say hello

• ~8:30pm – Screening ends and the meetup finishes

Tickets / cost

• Everyone books and pays for their own ticket directly through Museums Victoria – there's no group booking.
• Museums Victoria currently lists single-session tickets at $25 adult, $22 concession and $20 for members. Please check the link above for the current price before you book.
• Make sure you book the 7:30pm session on Friday 16 October 2026 so we're all in the same screening.
• Sessions can sell out, so it's worth booking early.

Transport

• Scienceworks is a short walk from Spotswood station, which is an easy trip on the Williamstown line.
