Nerd Nite Melbourne #71 at Howler

Join me for a night of smart, silly and surprisingly niche talks at Nerd Nite Melbourne #71 at Howler in Brunswick. It's the long-running "TED Talks in a pub" night — a few presenters, a few drinks, and topics you never knew you needed to hear about.

Nerd Nite says this edition has three presenters and a spooky October theme, including a forensic anthropologist on how buried human remains are found. It's their second-last show for 2026.

We'll meet at 7:00pm outside the gates of St Ambrose Hall so it's easy to find each other, say hello, then walk over to Howler together at around 7:10pm. Doors are at 7:00pm and the show starts at 7:30pm.

This is a casual social meetup so we can head along together — it isn't run by or affiliated with Nerd Nite Melbourne or Howler. Please book your own ticket directly through Moshtix; an RSVP here isn't a ticket and doesn't include entry.

Who this is for

• Anyone curious, and happy to sit through talks on topics they've never thought about before
• People who enjoy a relaxed, chatty night out rather than a big loud one
• No background knowledge needed — the talks are made for general audiences
• Coming on your own is very welcome; plenty of people do, and that's the whole point of meeting up first

Timeline

• 7:00pm – Meet outside the gates of St Ambrose Hall and say hello

• Nerd Nite currently lists tickets at $15 + booking fee through Moshtix.
• Everyone books and pays for their own ticket directly — I'm not holding tickets for the group.
• Worth booking ahead, as these nights can sell out.

Transport

• Howler is at 7–11 Dawson Street, Brunswick, a short walk from our meeting point.
• Trams and the Upfield line both serve Brunswick, and the night finishes late enough that it's worth checking your last service before you head out.
• Street parking around Brunswick is limited, so public transport is usually easier.

Bring

• A jacket — October evenings in Melbourne can turn cold
• Cash or card for drinks if you'd like one
