Planetarium Nights: Black Holes & Particle/Wave at Scienceworks
Details
Join me for a night under the dome at Planetarium Nights, the adults-only Friday evening sessions at the Melbourne Planetarium at Scienceworks in Spotswood.
We'll start with Black Holes – Journey into the Unknown, narrated by Geoffrey Rush, paired with What's in the Sky Tonight, a presenter-led tour of the night sky. Then we'll stay on for Particle/Wave, a 60-minute fulldome piece that blends poetry, video art, music and science around the gravitational waves first detected in 2015.
We'll meet inside the Melbourne Planetarium waiting area at 7:00pm, say hello, then head into the 7:30pm show together. There's a break before the 9:00pm show, which is a good chance to grab a drink from the bar and chat.
You're welcome to come to just one show. Please message me in advance so I know when to expect you. A Meetup RSVP does not include entry, so please book your own ticket(s).

- Anyone curious about space and physics, or keen for a different kind of Friday night

- Museums Victoria currently lists: Adult $25 for one session or $45 for both; Concession $22 or $40; Member $20 or $35. Please check the booking page for current pricing.
- Make sure you book the Friday 13 November sessions.
- Booking ahead is a good idea in case sessions fill up.
Transport
- Scienceworks is at 2 Booker Street, Spotswood. Spotswood station (Williamstown line) is a short walk away. Check PTV for train times home after 10:00pm.
- If you're driving, Scienceworks notes that its new neighbour Grazeland (an outdoor food and drink venue) brings large crowds on Friday evenings, so allow extra time to park.
Bring
- Your ticket(s), on your phone or printed
- Photo ID, since it's an 18+ event
- Card or cash for the bar if you'd like a drink
Expect
- Difficulty: None, just sit back and look up
- Pace: Two seated shows with a break in between
- Vibe: Relaxed, curious and a little mind-bending
- Group style: We'll meet beforehand and chat during the break, and try to sit together where we can
Important notes
- This is a casual social meetup so we can head along together. It isn't run by or affiliated with Scienceworks, Museums Victoria or the Melbourne Planetarium. Please book your own ticket directly with them; an RSVP here doesn't include entry.
- Scienceworks says late entry into the Planetarium is not permitted, and asks guests to arrive at the show entry 15 minutes before the start time. If you're only joining for Particle/Wave, aim to be there by 8:45pm.
- Please follow all venue rules and staff instructions on the night.
- If your plans change, please update your RSVP so numbers stay clear.
