Discover Sailing Day at Mornington Yacht Club
Details
Join me for an afternoon on the water at Mornington Yacht Club's Discover Sailing Day! It's a relaxed, beginner-friendly chance to try sailing for the first time, with the club's team showing us the ropes. No experience needed.
We'll meet at the Port Philip view point at 1:00pm, say hello, then walk over to the yacht club together for the 1:30pm Try Sailing session. Afterwards, we'll stick around for live music, a BBQ and drinks at the club before wrapping up around 4:00pm.
This is a casual social meetup so we can head along together. It isn't run by or affiliated with Mornington Yacht Club. Please book your own ticket for the 1:30pm session directly with MYC; an RSVP here doesn't include entry.
I'll likely catch public transport down from the city, so reach out if you'd like to tag along.
Who this is for
- Anyone curious to try sailing. No previous experience needed

Tickets / cost
- Tickets are $10, booked directly with MYC (link above). Please choose the 1:30pm session so we're all on the water together.
- MYC says the $10 is fully redeemable at the BBQ or bar on the day, so it goes towards something to eat or drink afterwards.
- The event page says registration closes Friday 6 November at 9:00am, so don't leave it to the last minute.
- After booking, MYC asks participants to create an Australian Sailing profile before the day.
Transport
- I'm planning to catch public transport from the city. Reach out if you'd like to travel together.
- From the city, it's generally a train to Frankston and then a bus to Mornington. Check the PTV Journey Planner for Sunday times and allow plenty of travel time.
Bring
- Towel
- Sunscreen
- Change of clothes
- Hat
- Water bottle
- Your MYC booking confirmation
- Money or a card for any extra food or drinks
Expect
- Difficulty: Beginner-friendly. No sailing experience needed
- Pace: Relaxed, with the MYC team guiding the sailing session
- Vibe: Social and laid-back, with live music and a BBQ afterwards
- Group style: We'll meet up and walk over together, join MYC's session, then hang out at the club
- MYC decides how people are split across boats, so we may not all be on the water together. We'll regroup at the club afterwards for the BBQ and music.
Important notes
- MYC requires all participants to be confident swimmers and comfortable around the water.
- Please take part within your own ability and follow all instructions from MYC staff and volunteers. You're joining at your own risk, and you're responsible for your own safety and wellbeing on the day.
- MYC decides how people are split across boats, so we may not all be on the water together. We'll regroup at the club afterwards for the BBQ and music.
- Sailing depends on weather and water conditions. Any changes to the session are up to MYC, so keep an eye on emails from them.
- A Meetup RSVP isn't a ticket. Please book directly with MYC.
- If your plans change, please update your RSVP so numbers stay clear.
