Join me for a day at Festival Indonesia Melbourne, the city's big annual celebration of Indonesian culture, now in its 13th year! Federation Square fills up with traditional and contemporary performances, hands-on workshops, trade stalls and plenty of Indonesian food.

We'll meet at the Angel sculpture by Deborah Halpern in Birrarung Marr at 10:00am, say hello, then stroll over to Federation Square together. From there we'll take in the performances, try a workshop or two, eat our way through the food stalls, and join the Goyang Pica-Pica Flashmob in the afternoon. If you'd like to dance along, the flashmob tutorial is linked below so you can learn the moves beforehand.

Festival Indonesia says entry is free and open to all, so there's no ticket to buy. This is just a casual meetup so we can go along together.

Who this is for

  • Anyone curious about Indonesian culture, music and dance
  • Foodies keen to try regional Indonesian dishes
  • Anyone up for a bit of fun dancing (totally optional – watching is fine too!)
  • Solo attendees are very welcome – it's a great way to meet new people
