Well it's time for the much hyped Wye River camping weekend. YEW!
I meant to do this in March/April but let's go anyway just before winter. Uncrowded waves!
If you like awesome beaches, chill waves, a pub with an excellent view plus beer and wine from all up and down the Great Ocean Road, campfires, koalas, kanagaroos, and surfing THIS IS THE WEEKEND FOR YOU. I have sites booked as a group for Fri and Sat nights at BIG4 Wye River.
In order to secure your spot please xfer $55 (that's the total cost for accomodation for the whole weekend) to:

This is a camping weekend, you must bring all your own camping equipment (THAT MUST BE SUITABLE FOR WINTER):
-Tent

-Shower towel / soaps
-Esky for perishables / drinks
I'd recommend bringing a chair as well but, that's optional. Please note, you won't have anything to sit on without bringing a chair (though you could sit on your esky :-) )
About the park: Wye River BIG4 is a family park so we'll need to make sure we keep noise to a minimum after 10pm (if you want to be loud late, just head to the beach). Unfortunately, no dogs allowed ☹. There are a ton a facilities: hot showers, toilets, electric BBQs, a camp kitchen, drinking water and power points at the sites, a playground and big jumpy trampoline thing for kids. The last few times I have been there there's been koalas in the trees of the park and kangaroos out the paddock in the back. There are heaps of sulphur crested cockies, black cockies, king parrots, crimson rosellas, and rainbow lorikeets for anyone who's into birds. They also allow campfires in fire pits. I have a firepit I'll be bringing down, let me know if you also have one. We can also rent an additional firepits from the park. The firepit I'm bringing, I plan to use to cook on for Sat night, which people are more than welcome to use as well.
We will only have six codes to get cars in and out of the park so please, please carpool.
About the town: Wye River is a small town that you could miss as it's just a small dip in the GOR, a short curve and you're out! It has a great pub overlooking the beach that's open for lunch and dinner (and works as a bottleshop). There normally is a general store/cafe but it may still be closed due to the flood. The campground sells ice and firewood. With a little planning it's unlikely you'll need to leave Wye. If you do need supplies, Lorne is about a 25min drive north.
About the surf and beach: Wye is a great break from 1-4'. It's protected from S and SW winds but offshore with NW to W. The beach normally forms a point break style right along the rocks, a nice A-frame in the centre of the beach, and a point break style left on the opposite side. At 4ft and over, the reefs along the rocks to the right of the beach start working (sorry goofies, they're all right handers). I've never had a bad time down there.
There's also another beach Separation Creek that is a short walk/drive and sometimes provides better options than Wye depending on the banks, wind, and swell direction.
There is also fishing along the rocks and at the beaches if anyone is keen like me. You can expect wrasse, aussie salmon, tailor, snapper, flathead, and perhaps whiting.
There's heaps to do in the area so if the surf is shite, there's always fishing, bushwalking, or the pub 😂.
The park rents foamies but not wetsuits. Closest rental is in Lorne ~25min drive. Best to have your equipment with you.
