Deep Dive into NLP and Investigation of Blood Donation Practices

Details

Join us for lunch to have a deep dive into Natural Language Processing with Lily Martin, from basic insights all the way to pushing NLP models into production; and an investigation of blood donation practices among Australian people who inject drugs.

Lily Martin - Lily is a Data Scientist Intern in the Digital Innovation team at National Australia Bank. She has been part of a major Natural Language Machine Learning Project to better understand what customers are saying and feeling. Working with TensorFlow and Keras, Lily and her team developed a novel Multi-layer Sentiment Classification model.

Ruth Pearson - Ruth has a background in physics and received her PhD in Cosmology in 2014. Her research used statistical and computational methods to study the early universe. Since then she has worked in various consulting roles as a statistician/data scientist and machine learning engineer. She is published in the fields of physics and public health and her research has led to national policy change for blood donation rules in Australia. She is interested in the interface of AI and human and veterinary medicine.
