This is a ride starting after a Vline train trip from town to Woodend.
(Catch the 10:02 Bendigo train using your Myki and arriving Woodend 11:04)

Note: The 3-car train has limited capacity for bikes (2 racks so nominally 6 bikes) so do be early to get your bike on board.

You could go earlier, if you like, and have an hour in Woodend for coffee beforehand. Let me know, please.

We ride initially to Riddells Creek bakery for early lunch then continue on roads to Woodlands Historic Park to take Moonee Ponds Creek Trail back to Melbourne.
Expecting tailwinds for much of the day but not all of it.

Total distance: 92 Km

The route is mostly on sealed roads and paths except for the upper section of Moonee Ponds trail which is Lilydale topping (a compacted gravel).
A road bike will be fine on it or bring your gravel bike if you like.

Speed: 25-30 Km/h typically

Recommended bike: Road bike

  • Actual route may vary on the day

Bring: Water, spare tube & tools, money for lunch & emergencies, Myki, your phone with my number.
Please check your bike's tyres condition beforehand.

Note: Woodend will be colder than Melbourne but we'll feel warmer by Riddells Creek after dropping some altitude. There are some climbs on this route but not many and we will pause to regroup at / near the top.
