About us
Everyone is Welcome
Offering classes, events and discussions sponsored by the Melbourne Theosophical Society which is a charity run by volunteers, with attendance by donation only, focused on the following objects:
- forming a nucleus of Universal Brotherhood of Humanity without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or colour
- encourage the study of comparative religion, philosophy and science
- investigate the unexplained laws of Nature and the powers latent in the human being
From the 1870s to today, the Society, part of a worldwide movement, has embraced the mystical, paving the way for the New Age attracting many Australians like Alfred Deakin, Walter Burley and Marion Mahony Griffin.
The Society, according to author Jill Roe, was in the vanguard of “progressive education, modern music, the spiritual in art and equality of the sexes and all races”.
Join the Melbourne Theosophy meetup group and share in that richness at our upcoming activities and events and remember to mark your favourites.

Raja Yoga - Online Course
Location not specified yetThis course, facilitated by Wendy Dixon, explores the concepts and exercises in Wallace Slater’s book A Simplified Course of Raja Yoga, which follows the Yoga Sutras or Aphorisms of Patanjali.
We meet online every Wednesday night and follow the 10-lesson structure created by Slater, allowing a month for each lesson. We will thoroughly explore each step, with time for discussion and practice.
Each session contains material on one or more of the eight limbs of yoga, so named by Patanjali - self-restraint (yama), self-discipline (niyama), posture (āsana), control of breath (prānayāma), control of the sense (pratyāhāra), concentration (dhāranā), meditation (dhyāna) and contemplation (samādhi).
Additional material is sourced from I. K. Taimni, Swami Vivekananda, H. P. Blavatsky and contemporary Raja Yoga books.
We begin and close each session with sitting meditations.
This is an ongoing course that you can join at any time.
