This Month:

Vector databases have become the backbone of modern AI applications, enabling everything from semantic search to retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) at enterprise scale. This session explores how to supercharge AI applications using Azure Cosmos DB and Azure OpenAI as the backend for vector search and generation, covering core architecture patterns, embedding strategies, and how these services fit together to power RAG pipelines. The talk covers when to use Cosmos DB's vector search capabilities, how Azure OpenAI handles embeddings and generation, and the tradeoffs enterprise teams should consider when building production-grade RAG systems on Azure. Attendees will leave with a clear mental model for designing vector-powered AI systems using these two Azure services as the foundation.

Our Speaker:

Balaji Venkatasubramaniyar is a Technical Lead for Enterprise Insurance Platform Integrations at Wisdom Infotech, deployed to Sedgwick, where he leads a multinational engineering team delivering web service integrations for a major enterprise insurance claims platform across workers' compensation, general liability, and auto lines. With 14+ years of enterprise software experience, Balaji brings deep expertise in building production-grade systems, web services, and web APIs, paired with hands-on knowledge of AI, agentic systems, RAG architecture, and vector databases.

Beyond his technical leadership role, Balaji is an active voice in the AI and tech community as a conference speaker, hackathon judge, and IEEE Senior Member. He has spoken on AI orchestration and vector databases at events including Scenic City Summit and AgentCamp Memphis, and regularly writes on AI architecture topics across LinkedIn, Medium, and DZone. He is passionate about bridging the gap between enterprise software practices and emerging AI technologies, helping organizations and fellow engineers translate cutting-edge AI concepts into real-world, scalable solutions.

This will be an in-person event only.
