What we’re about

Hello Memphis rockers, singers, horn players, pickers, string musicians, and performers of "live" music. Welcome to the sessions of Soundhaus, an incredibly fun, high energy music experience and social gathering where musicians across Memphis metro, such as yourself, will come together to perform cover songs in a 2 - 3 hour themed session.

Join at www.soundhaus.live.

Rooted in the mantra "all fun, no stress", Soundhaus is a community-first group where it's about playing great music, yes, but also about having a night to just hang out, support others playing some killer music, network, push your ability in a trusted space, happily be open to mistakes, have a cocktail or two, and stay positive (no ego). Soundhaus explores music across all the genres.....rock (classic, alternative, southern, indie, prog), country (classic, alt, new), Americana, jamband, soul / r&b, blues, funk, horns, punk, hard rock, jazz, singer-songwriter, acoustic, and more.

Boundaries are pushed. All songs are possible. THIS IS NOT A JAM SESSION OR OPEN MIC. No house band. This is "live" music where all parts are performed by the talented musicians of the local Soundhaus.

"It's like being in a top-tier local cover band without having to do any of the not-so-fun band stuff. Crazy how it works."

This started in St. Louis but is spreading its wings to launch in multiple Midwest cities....including Memphis, KC, Chicago, Indianapolis, Detroit, and Peoria.

Who matches well with this "live" event and group?

Well first, know the sessions follow a "no group rehearsal" format. This allows more players to join and to have more control over learning their assigned parts. When a session is announced, there will be a 25-30 song selection list that corresponds with the theme. Each interested player and/or singer submits their part preferences (lead guitar, rhythm guitar, drums, etc....) in ranked order of what they want to play the most to least. Each sign-up gets minimum of 3 songs to play unless otherwise noted....but players can play many more than that if interested and capable.

Your ranked list is what you would like to play, not necessarily the songs you will get in the end, although Soundhaus aims to get you 2-3 of your top 5 preferred parts.

Using the Soundhaus proprietary platform, parts are assigned and distributed 14 days prior to the session date which gives everyone those 2 weeks to prep their parts on their own schedule. You will coordinate any song details with your songmates using the Soundhaus message boards specific to each of your songs assigned. This also helps new players get to know their songmates before the actual performance night and see their faces as posted from their profile.

On the night of the event, everyone shows up early, hangs out, and goes up to play when their song is called off the setlist. It's a one-time performance which means it's not expected to play perfect....but surprisingly, given the talent level, many of the tunes exceed what anyone could imagine, plus you get to do songs most never get a chance to play "live"...even the true journeyman players. 25 or 6-to-4 (full horn section), The Spirit Of Radio, Uptown Funk (full horn section), 24 Frames, Jessica (all 8 minutes), 1901, Master Of Puppets, Gorilla Radio, Midnight In Harlem, Sell Out (full horn section, ska), and hundreds more.

Each city's group should grow to, minimum, 200-250 musicians covering the appropriate skill range and instruments. We don't draw a hard line on qualifications as talent is subjective, but for the sessions to produce the best "live, one-time" result, players and singers need to know what they can deliver. Soundhaus looks for those with advance to pro level skills (at-home or active musicians) or those with band experience (whether in current band or previous) and core competence on the instrument(s). A player can be intermediate level but, again, competence and confidence on instrument must be showcased. You can be, for example, an advanced-level ryhthm guitar player, but that doesn't mean you have to be on lead as well. If you have the talent, we can walk you through any nerves. Many times, musicians under evaluate themselves, so don't miss out on a fun, rewarding experience due to a self assessment if you truly don't know. No beginners, first timers, or inexperienced "on stage" type players. Future groups will broaden out to accommodate more of these skill levels.

Sessions are fee-based ranging from $10-$15, but your first session is free. The fee delivers on the experience for the players and a fun night out. And yes, even veteran musicians in bands have no issue with paying to play as the night's fun, networking, and music experience consistently exceeds expectations. 4.9 out of 5 stars from 400+ musicians in St. Louis.
