Paddle Stone Lagoon, Humboldt Lagoons State Park - Day 4

Details

The drive through the majestic redwood forest to reach Stone Lagoon is just as breathtaking as the lagoon itself. Situated about an hour south of the Oregon border at an elevation of 20 feet, Stone Lagoon boasts some of the finest paddling in Northern California. Morning will be calm & scenic; afternoon can be quite windy.

Ryan’s Cove Campground, across the lagoon, offers six primitive, boat-in or hike-in campsites that are open year-round. A few sites overlook the lagoon, while others are nestled in the woods.

The lagoon's serene 10-mph boat speed limit and picturesque scenery provide unparalleled paddling along its six miles of shoreline, where massive redwood groves rise up from the shore, leaving only a few pullout locations. This backdrop of exquisite natural beauty offers awe-inspiring sights, with abundant wildlife including elk, deer, bears, raccoons, otters, seals, and even whales.
