This meetup is full of hikers who enjoy staying in good shape by spending time outdoors. Come join us.
We begin by walking into the southern sun, so bring a hat to keep the sun out of your eyes.
Walking across Coyote Valley Dam and farther into the oak forest, we cover a minimum of 2 miles and a maximum of 4 miles. Most people walk at about 2½ mph. About halfway through, there is one hill that rises about 300 feet over roughly a quarter mile.
Bring water that’s easily accessible in a fanny pack, sling, or backpack. Dress in layers. Between the wind on the dam (¾ mile across), the winter sun, and the cool forest, temperatures can vary. Hiking poles are recommended.
We’ve had anywhere from 2 to 12 people join us, and all are welcome. We like walking on the dam because we can chat four or five abreast, then transition to a single-track trail for quieter walking.
We usually start walking at the time listed. When you sign up, we know to watch out for you. The past 10 years have provided wonderful accountability for staying active!
Here’s my favorite recorded “lollipop loop” at the south end of Lake Mendocino from AllTrails.
