Book Study Stroll - The Control of Nature
Details
We'll focus on the book by John McPhee called "The Control of Nature". I read this years ago, probably shortly after it was published in 1989, and this book was recently recommended reading for us by the geology teacher at Mendocino College.
Three fascinating stories are presented. Iceland's attempt to stop a volcano, Army Corps attempt to change the course of the Mississippi, and the effort to stop the hills from sliding down into Los Angeles. Each of these articles were originally published in The New Yorker. I have returned to this book a few times, like a good old movie!
Dec '25, I found a copy at the used book store in Santa Rosa's fourth street. $7. Library and the local book stores are also good places to find a copy. & Probably a free pdf is online.
Thank you all for reading with me! And strolling those Low Gap hills.
Picture is one of David Nelson's while we were kayaking our own Army Corp effort to control nature at Coyote Valley Dam.
