GO NORTH to the Winery - walking for exercise on the Shakota Trail.

ATTENTION:
changing directions.
Let's walk to the old winery, instead of walking the dam. This walk is about 5 miles on single track trail, and up and down, rarely level., 10-50 feets up and down every few hundred feet! The workout will be different than the steady up of the spillway dam. There's usually a little less poison oak than the south part of the lake, but watch out for it! and snakes, too!
We'll meet at 11 at the picnic area of the overlook. Park at joe riley picnic area ahead of time, or park at the overlook.
Wear a hat, bring water, and use hiking poles, sun glasses. The ground can be really slippery from loose pebbles. Wear shoes that can take brief steep slippery slopes. Poison Oak is everywhere. If you are susceptible, wear long sleeves, long pants, and stay on the trail. After, change and wash clothes in soap in water. Wear light colored clothes - the better to see ticks. And especially wash the dog after the hike.
Most of us have a walking routine in-between the Monday meetups. I recommend walking every day to be ready to hike with us for two hours on Monday.
RSVP and we'll wait for 11am to make sure you're there. If you're late, catch up with us by walking north on the Shakota trail.

Every week on Monday until May 18, 2025
