About RG Enriquez-Diez:
RG Enriquez-Diez is the founder of the website Astig Vegan, demonstrating Filipino food can be vegan, healthy, and delicious without losing its soul. She is the author of the cookbook Filipino Vegan.
RG was born and raised in Bacoor Cavite, Philippines, where she grew up helping her mother cook traditional Filipino food for the family. RG was 15 when she and her family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. She became a vegan in college and has traveled around the U.S. and the Philippines, teaching at workshops and festivals. She’s been featured in outlets including The San Francisco Chronicle, VegNews, Buzzfeed, and Bon Appétit. RG’s vegan culinary journey has led to her being able to call her homeland "home" once again.
What does “Astig” mean? RG explains, "'Astig' is a Tagalog (Filipino dialect) slang word for tough, unique, or gutsy. I look at vegan Filipino food as something 'Astig.'"
