Global Language Storytime: Filipino
Details
Kababayan Kids is returning to the library to present a Filipino/English bilingual storytime! Enjoy songs, stories, Filipino vocabulary and a craft. Best for children in preschool through Grade 4, with their families.
Tagalog is one of the main languages of the Philippines and is one of the top most spoken languages in California. Filipino is an updated version of Tagalog that includes elements of other native Philippine languages, as well as English, Spanish, Malay and Chinese.
About Kababayan Kids:
Kababayan Kids was founded by three Filipina moms living in Vallejo. Christine, Bien-Elize, and Charlene met while attending University of California, San Diego and all moved to Vallejo to raise their children. While searching for Filipinx activities for their kids, they found that although Vallejo has a high population of Filipinos, there was a lack of activities for their kids. So, they simply decided to start the movement themselves.
What started as an idea for Tagalog story time has developed into a Tagalog parenting collective that spans from Vallejo all the way to the East Coast—and even Canada!
Menlo Park’s Global Language Storytime series features a different language each month, exposing children and families to a wealth of languages and cultures during fun, interactive activities for audiences of all language backgrounds.
This free event received funding support from the Friends of the Menlo Park Library.
