The assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the course of American History. Learn about Dr. King’s final moments in Memphis, Tennessee in April 1968 and the subsequent investigations and inquiries into his death.

In July 2025, an Executive Order declassified over 243,000 files related to the assassination of Dr. King.

Join Ryan Jones, the Director of History at the National Civil Rights Museum as he unpacks the assassination and the lingering conspiracy questions.

About the National Civil Rights Museum:

Established in 1991, the National Civil Rights Museum is located at the former Lorraine Motel, where civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968. Through interactive exhibits, historic collections, dynamic speakers and special events, the museum offers visitors a chance to walk through history and learn more about a tumultuous and inspiring period of change.
