Melanated Women Read is a book discussion group by and especially for Black women. This month we will discuss Gather Me: A Memoir in Praise of the Books That Saved Me, by Glory Edim.

In a childhood marked by traumatic changes and losses, Edim found her local library to be an escape, a safe space, and a second home. In books, Edim found community, discovering authors and ideas that she wasn’t being taught about in school.

In prose full of joy and heartbreak, Edim recounts how these writers taught her how to value herself by helping her to find her own voice, and to uplift the stories of other Black women.
