We're celebrating the 11th Annual Menlo Park Storytelling Festival. This evening, drop in to be immersed in a world of wonder, in our new monthly event!
You’re invited to share stories, hear stories, and build community, during an open gathering of storytellers and listeners. Tell—or just listen!
For decades, the Southbay Storytellers and Listeners have shared the art of storytelling and developed new tellers. Learn about and enjoy the art from this multigenerational group of pros and enthusiastic amateurs. Adults and families are welcome!
Styles of stories shared:
- Ancient lore and modern adaptations
- Oral histories and personal true stories
- Fables old and new
- Satire - Parody
- Folk tales from many cultures — bilingual storytelling is welcome
Anyone may offer to tell a story, singly or in tandem.
The Storytelling Meeting takes place 4th Tuesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. at Menlo Park Library.

About Storytelling:
- Storytelling is telling stories--without using a book.
- It's an ancient art form that predates libraries, and books, and writing.
- It's not necessarily for children!
- Traditional-style storytelling creates unique images in the mind of each listener.
- According to the National Storytelling Network, "storytelling is the interactive art of using words and actions to reveal the elements and images of a story while encouraging the listener’s imagination. In storytelling, the listener imagines the story.”
- According to the Storytelling Association of California (an organization dedicated to promoting storytelling as a living art form), storytelling is “orally passing on adventures, wisdom, experiences, surprise, history, laughter, beliefs and imagination.”
