What is Playback Theatre
Playback Theatre was invented outside of New York in the 1970’s
Today there are Playback groups and companies all over the world.
It’s a thing - be part of the movement!

In a playback event, someone in the audience tells a moment or story from their life, and sometimes even chooses the actors to play the different roles, and then all those present watch the enactment, as the story "comes to life" with artistic shape and nuance. Actors draw on naturalistic as well as non-naturalistic styles to convey meaning, such as metaphor or song.
We basically create performances without a script or a score; and we do not consult or "huddle" prior to beginning the performance, trusting instead in a shared understanding of the story, we have carefully all listened to, whilst also connecting instinctively and responding to each other's cues.
