This is a group for those of us with medically diagnosed mental illnesses who are looking for peer support on our journeys toward wellness.
We also welcome those who may suspect they have a mental illness and are searching for somewhere to turn.
I intend this group to be a place of connection, empathy, and safety in a world that is so often judgmental of our differences. We all have much to learn from each other. Each of us has our stories, our lessons, our failures. Our lives are all filled with heartbreak and humor. Let us gather together in hope and friendship.
My name is Laura Cherry. I stepped up to be the organizer after the original organizer left and the group was set to be deleted. New Orleans needs this group.
I have struggled with mental illness from childhood. I have bipolar disorder, multiple anxiety disorders, psychogenic seizures, complex PTSD, chronic derealization, disordered eating, and Asperger's. I am currently on disability.
I'm a fiction writer and editor with a background in psychology. Currently, I'm studying become a yoga teacher. After a 14-month depression, I returned to my mat. It is the safest, most nurturing, and healing place for me. The yogic lifestyle is my saving grace, supporting me in a way my medications can't. I'm deeply grateful for it every day, and I hope that you all have a saving grace of your own.
