The Anger We Carry
Exploring Anger, Boundaries & the Strength Beneath the Surface
Monday, October 26, 2026
7:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Doors open at 6:45 PM
Little Burgundy, Montreal
Capacity: 8 men
Anger is one of the emotions many men learn to control, suppress, avoid, or express only once it reaches a breaking point.
But anger can carry information.
Sometimes it tells us that a boundary has been crossed. Sometimes it protects something important. Sometimes it sits on top of hurt, fear, frustration, grief, powerlessness, or something we have not yet found words for.
And sometimes we do not even realize how much of it we are carrying.
In this MENTRaL session, we’ll explore our relationship with anger without treating it as something inherently dangerous, something shameful, or something that simply needs to be “released.”
We’ll get curious about the different ways anger shows up in us, what we learned about it growing up, what happens when we hold it in, and how it can be expressed without losing connection with ourselves or the people around us.
We may explore questions such as: What happens in me when I get angry? What do I tend to do with it? When is anger protecting something important? What is the difference between anger, aggression and strength? What might exist underneath the anger? How can anger help us recognize and communicate our boundaries?
The goal is not to manufacture anger, force emotional intensity, or push anyone toward a cathartic experience.
Instead, we’ll practise noticing what anger is communicating, how it moves through us, and how we might relate to it with greater awareness and choice.
What the evening may include
- Grounding and breathwork
- A playful opening exploration of the messages we have learned about anger
- Authentic Relating practices
- Embodiment and movement
- Exploration of boundaries and how anger shows up in the body
- Paired exercises in listening, witnessing and present-moment awareness
- Circling and group sharing
- Opportunities to explore an experience without needing to fix or resolve it
- Optional social time afterward
No previous experience is required.
You do not need to arrive angry. You do not need to share anything you are uncomfortable sharing. You are always welcome to pass on an exercise.
There is also no particular way you are supposed to feel by the end.
Come willing to be curious about yourself, listen to others, and explore what anger might have to tell us when we give it attention without automatically suppressing it or acting on it.
About MENTRaL
MENTRaL is an experiential men’s community for those who want to become more intentional in how they show up in their relationships, work, leadership and lives.
This is not therapy, anger management, or a space for telling men what masculinity should look like.
It is a place to practise presence, connection, emotional awareness, accountability and more intentional ways of relating, alongside other men who are figuring things out too.
Registration
Capacity is intentionally limited to 8 men so the group can remain intimate and everyone has space to participate.
If you RSVP and later realize you cannot attend, please update your RSVP as soon as possible so the space can be offered to someone else.
Contribution: Pay What You Can, $20 suggested
Important: Our Meetup organizer subscription ends on October 18. If you would like to attend after that date, please email us at mentral1111@gmail.com to confirm your spot and receive any event updates.
Come as you are.
