Recreation hike to Hites Cove

Hwy 140 is open! The poppies are in full bloom! Newts! River Otters! People!

Enjoy a leisurely hike on the Hites Cove Trail. Saturday is forecasted to be a sunny day, assuring plenty of blooming flowers. It'll be an all-day hike, so bring plenty of water and food.

Your host (Bill King), founder of Mariposa Trails (www.mariposatrails.org), is very familiar with the trail, its flowers and history, and will go all the way into the cove with those wanting to go that far. Last year, a new loop trail was improved in the cove, enabling clear and easy route finding to many of the historic sites,

To be sure, this is a recreational hike- no trail work. I will bring historic images and maps of the cove, as well as a flower guide, to share with interested folks.

Meet at the trailhead at 10AM; we depart on the hike no later than 1015AM. Look for and gather at the yellow "Mariposa Trails" sign. Parking is expected to be tight, so do make carpool arrangements, and give yourself plenty of time arrive.
