Fernkloof Nature Reserve, Hermanus. INTERMEDIATE LEVEL HIKE.

Details

Fernkloof Nature Reserve covers 18 square kilometres in the Kleinrivier Mountains in Hermanus and ranges in altitude from sea level to 824 m. The main vegetation here is fynbos, which comprises 0.002% of the Cape Floral Kingdom but contains 18% of its plants in just 18 square kilometres. There is no other place on earth where so many different species can be seen growing in such close proximity.

The Reserve lies across almost the entire northern side of the town with a 60 km network of trails. These provide the opportunity for people of all fitness levels to enjoy.

Join Nicole and Kevin as we do a hike that uses several of the routes. We will have beautiful scenic views over Hermanus, the Overberg region, and the coast (weather permitting). There is a gradual uphill to about 450 m, and a steep downhill towards the end, so you will need to be hiking fit and be able to manage uneven ground and walking over some rocks.

This is a 2BC graded route. https://www.meridian-hiking.org.za/meridian-grading-system/

Bring your hat, water, snacks/lunch, some warm clothing and a raincoat etc. https://www.meridian-hiking.org.za/essential-info-for-hiker

Unfortunately NO DOGS are allowed on the trails we will be walking on this morning in Fernkloof.

* There is a R40 (cash) fee for non Meridian members to be paid at the start of the hike. Entrance to the Fernkloof nature reserve is free.

At the end of the hike, we can spend some time walking through the Fernkloof gardens near the car parking area for those who may be interested.
