Hand Carving, Sculpture, Walking Staffs or Pointers

Hi! We did a lot of tree trimming at my house and on the driveway and back yard at Wilson Rd, getting the places more in shape and have lots of wood for walking staffs, small sculptures, maybe fishing rods and pointers. Small pointers can be used for cat chase toys, larger ones for dog chase toys. Some people use them as wands like Harry Potter fans and Wiccans. I will research the types of wood we have cut down and make sure none are poisonous so the pets won't chew the wrong things if their toys are left down where they can reach them.

I will have the wood. You bring a knife with a handle that won't fold and we will skin the bark off if you prefer and we will also trim the nubs off (they will be pretrimmed and I have saws and razor knives), shorten them if we need them to be. I will have tools to take care of the butt end to help resist cracking. I think it is too soon for sand paper but if you want you can bring some and I will show anyone not knowing how yet, how to sand wood smooth as well as remove dead bark that was not pre-removed while green. It is way easier doing green bark removal. I have some dead wood to demo on. We won't get into in depth carving today unless it seems we are just headed that way.

I have face masks, latex gloves and a few tools for major restructuring of wood. I will demo only, you cannot use the restructuring tools. They are power tools and I don't have a license or insurance to teach how to use them. I just want to educate anyone interested in pros and cons. Bring glasses for your eyes, snacks and drinks if you want. Come in anywhere between 12 noon and 7 pm. RSVP if you are coming and call before you get there. I may have done a store run for materials.
