Nostos – Reading Homer’s Odyssey Together | Every Tuesday at Metis
Details
Nearly three thousand years ago, a man set out to find his way home. Nostos, the Greek word for homecoming, sits at the heart of Homer’s Odyssey, and it gives this new reading group its name.
Starting Tuesday, 13 October, we meet every Tuesday at 18:00 at Metis Books & Café to journey through the Odysseytogether, three books each week. Every other week, we pause to discuss what we’ve read: the Cyclops and the Sirens, Circe and Calypso, Penelope’s patient cunning, Telemachus growing up in his father’s absence, and the long, hard road back to Ithaca. In eight Tuesdays, we’ll reach Ithaca together, just in time for December.
With Christopher Nolan’s film bringing Odysseus back to the big screen, this is the perfect moment to go back to the source and discover why this story still feels so modern: a tale of loss, identity, cleverness, loyalty, and what it really means to come home.
