What we’re about
All of us share an interest in sacred chant known as "kirtan," a devotional practice of singing, drumming, and participating in group energy for the purpose of elevating the spirit, building community, and realizing interconnectedness. The practice originated in India millennia ago, but has been popularized in the West by singers such as Krishna Das, Jai Uttal, Wah!, Dave Stringer, Deva Premal, Bhagavan Das, David Newman (Durga Das), etc. This list will be a place to share information about local kirtan events and other sacred/vibrational singing, music, and/or drumming in the Metro DC area.

Finding Your Voice & Vibration Workshop
Bhakti Spirit, 10921 Lincoln Avenue, Hagerstown, MD, USThis is my most beloved and requested workshop—one that has changed my life and the lives of many participants! Through Sanskrit, I have found my own unique voice, with my singing and devotional practice flourishing in ways I never imagined. Inspired by a similar class from my teacher Pierre Couvillion, I witnessed transformation overnight, and again and again, I’ve heard this same awakening from those who join this workshop.
One story that is especially close to my heart involves a 17-year-old with severe autism. For a year, we chanted together, and while he mimicked my voice, he never used his own. Everything changed when I introduced him to the Sanskrit alphabet. For the first time, a booming, authentic voice emerged! The rest of our chanting that day and many meetings together, his booming voice emerged as we chanted.
Stories like his, and many others, are testaments to the deep impact of Sanskrit and mantra, and I will share them with you during our time together. There is something truly remarkable about the vibrations of this ancient language—something that can unlock voices, connection, and healing.
You don’t need any prior experience with Sanskrit or chanting to attend—just bring your open heart and mind! In this workshop, you will:
-Begin to explore the transformative power of mantra and vibration.
-Learn how to access and create authentic sound vibrations from deep within yourself.
-Chant the Sanskrit alphabet, experiencing the five different mouth positions that shape these powerful sounds. (Many participants return again and again—I've taken this workshop at least 10 times myself!)
-Discover ways to find and confidently use your true voice.
-Discuss how mantra can enrich your personal practice and everyday life.
-Learn about the Matricas and their application in sound healing, as taught by Swami Gurusharanananda.
