Since taking office, Donald Trump has deliberately used tariffs as a means of economic and political pressure – sometimes against China, Canada, and the EU. But what are the goals of this strategy? Is it truly about protecting American jobs, or are geopolitical interests at the forefront? The first consequences of this trade policy are already noticeable: increasing trade conflicts, a weakening labor market, and declining consumer sentiment in the US. What can we expect now? What further impact will this development have on the US economy, German companies, and transatlantic trade?
