What we’re about

The Metropolitan Energy Center's (www.metroenergy.org) mission is to create resource efficiency, environmental health, and economic vitality in the Kansas City region by making it more feasible for businesses, communities, and civic organizations to utilize clean energy and more sustainable development practices.

Join us this Saturday, September 21st, 12-3PM for a hackathon to contribute to Code for KC & the Metropolitan Energy Center's (MEC) Mapping Energy Efficiency and Public Health (MEEP) web app! Part of Code for America's National Day of Civic Hacking, which brings together civic leaders, public servants, designers, coders, and engaged citizens, we are looking for people who can help contribute to our app built with Python, Flask, JavaScript, and React. In particular, we are looking for people with GIS skills to assist us in some of the mapping challenges to the MEEP app. The app aims to create a central database that consolidates the MEC's data on the impact their programs have on air quality and improving public health, and then to create a map-based interface to the data.

The hackathon will be held this Saturday, September 21st, from 12-3PM at MEC's Project Living Proof energy-efficiency demonstration home at 917 Cleaver II Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64110, near the plaza. Come join us!
