What we’re about
Metropolitan Walkers is the largest London-based Ramblers group for people in their 20s and 30s.
All our planned walks can be found at https://www.metropolitan-walkers.org.uk/wal... We publish to MeetUp to showcase our activities to a wider audience!
If you've not walked with us before, you’re welcome to come along on three free walks before becoming a member, to see if Met Walkers is for you! Membership is around £38 per year, or £27 concessionary rate.
We’re a very active group. Our volunteers lead walks every weekend, ranging from short, leisurely walks to strenuous hikes of 17+ miles across hilly terrain. We also lead one evening stroll during the week, discovering different parts of the capital.
We explore the beautiful areas near London such as the North Downs, south coast and Chilterns, all of which are accessible by public transport.
A lot of our members walk regularly, which is a great way to form friendships. As well as walking, we have a regular social programme.
We regularly run weekends away to explore the other great walking areas the UK has to offer, such as the Lake District, Snowdonia and Scotland, and have also put on several trips abroad.
We’re part of the Ramblers – the charity that helps everyone, everywhere, enjoy walking; and protects the places we all love to walk.

A walk that passes through plenty of ancient woodland on both the North Downs and Greensand Ridges where each year the ground is covered in bluebells. Though with the unseasonably warm recent weather, there is the possibility that they may already be passed their peak, but it is still stunning countryside with great views!
Bring a packed lunch. The lunch stop is at 12 miles distance at Emmetts Gardens, which has a cafe and public toilets. Please note that this is a National Trust site, so anyone without a membership will not be able to access the actual gardens themselves and will need to stay within the vicinity of where we stop for lunch.
This will be an undulating walk with a total ascent of 800 metres, and it will be at a reasonably fast pace. The walk finishes at Sevenoaks Town Centre where there are plenty of pubs to choose from.
Transport: Take the 9:31 from London Charing Cross (Waterloo East: 9:34, London Bridge: 9:40, Orpington: 10:14) arrive at Knockholt at 10:20. If there are issues with the trains, services tend to start from London Bridge, so it is advisable to get to London Bridge if possible.
If travelling from London, contactless can be used at both the start and end stations (but only Oyster to the start), but a railcard cannot be used with this. Otherwise please purchase a return to Sevenoaks.
Meet just outside the entrance of Knockholt Station. Please note that there are no toilets here, but there should be some on the train (depending on which type of train is used).
