Details

Metropolitan Walkers is part of the Ramblers, Britain's walking charity. All welcome for 3 'taster' walks, after which please join the Ramblers - info on the Met Walkers website

A hilly and challenging walk with a total ascent and descent of over 1000 metres each. The first half of the walk passes along the ups and downs of the North Downs ridge and then descends into the village of Chipstead, where the lunch stop will be on the green next to the lake. Sevenoaks railway station is a stright forward 2 mile walk away from the lunch stop point, so there is the potential option to leave the walk at that point if anyone wishes to. The second half of the walk then passes along the Greensand Ridge (with plenty more ups and downs), including the National Trust site of Emmetts Garden, and then Mill Bank Wood and finishing at Sevenoaks town centre.

Bring a packed lunch. There is a pub at the lunch stop for drinks only. Apart from the pub at the lunch stop and a cafe / shop at three quarters distance (Ide Hill), there are no other facilities or shops on the route, so make sure to bring plenty of water. A good few pubs to choose from at the end.

Travel: Take 9:31 from London Charing Cross (9:34 Waterloo East, 9:40 London Bridge), arrive at Otford 10:09.

Buy a return to Sevenoaks.

Meet in the station car park by the gate next to the station main building.

Grading: Strenuous.
For an explanation of the gradings, please see the FAQ - please consider both the length and grade when choosing a walk.

Finish point: Sevenoaks Station
