East Sussex Coast: Three Oaks to Rye (17 miles/Strenuous)

Details

Metropolitan Walkers is part of the Ramblers, Britain's walking charity. All welcome for 3 'taster' walks, after which please join the Ramblers - info on the Met Walkers website

Snaking to and from the coastline, this walk features a medley of woodland, clifftops, fenland, and pebble beach.

Beginning well inland at Three Oaks, we meander in the general direction of the sea over rolling hills patched with woodland, until we reach the scenic Covehurst Bay, and follow the coast path eastwards to Pett Level. There we head back inland for a cool lunchtime pint in Pett and on eastwards towards a former military canal, before dropping in on the coast again at Winchelsea Beach - further break here (with swim opportunity for those that way inclined). Finish at the lovely coastal town of Rye with some quality taps and sumptuous fish and chips.

Please bring a packed lunch.

Strenuous for distance but no rush - we'll make the most of the extensive summer daylight.

Travel: Take 8:40 from St Pancras, change at Ashford International (arr. 9:18, dep 9:24), arr. 10:01 Three Oaks.

Buy return to Three Oaks valid on HS1.

Grading: Strenuous.
For an explanation of the gradings, please see the FAQ - please consider both the length and grade when choosing a walk.

Finish point: Rye
