Details
Metropolitan Walkers is part of the Ramblers, Britain's walking charity. All welcome for 3 'taster' walks, after which please join the Ramblers - info on the Met Walkers website
This walk has been marked strenuous because of its distance, but will be taken at a moderate pace.
Beginning in Ewell, we explore Horton Country Park before heading south across Epsom Common and the original well where, in 1620, Henry Wicker discovered a water spring with a strong mineral taste, eventually leading to Epsom becoming a popular spa town.
We cross Epsom Race Course and Walton Downs, and stop for lunch in the pretty village of Walton on the Hill. After lunch, we pass through Surrey countryside before a short pub stop in Headley (drinks only). Finally, we head through Headley Downs and Box Hill to finish up in Dorking.
Bring a packed lunch. Optional pub at the end of the walk.
Travel: Take the 09:53 train from London Waterloo (09:57 Vauxhall; 10:02 Clapham Junction; 10:05; Earlsfield; 10:09 Wimbledon), arrive Ewell West at 10:24.
