Old Ways to a New Station (15 miles/Moderate)
Details
Metropolitan Walkers is part of the Ramblers, Britain's walking charity. All welcome for 3 'taster' walks, after which please join the Ramblers - info on the Met Walkers website
On this walk, some might recognise “Old Ways” from Robert Macfarlane’s book of that title, including the ridgetop Roman road into Cambridge, and the ordinary paths on the city’s edge, where a snowbound evening walk inspired the author to begin his epic journeys. The end comes right up-to-date, at Cambridge South station, just two weeks old! At Wandlebury Country Park, there will be time for visits to the historic buildings and ancient hill fort, rest stop plus (hopefully) cafe, but please don’t rely on that.
Please bring packed lunch and snacks and water for full day. Pub stop at end.
