The Fens and Ely Cathedral (14.5 miles/Moderate)

The walk starts at Waterbeach and follows the Fen Rivers Way along the Cam to the historic city of Ely. The Fenland landscape is a man-made environment constructed over centuries, characterised by dramatic open landscape dissected by dykes and embankments built to reclaim the land. We will stop at a riverside pub after lunch and pause at the Kingfisher Bridge Nature Reserve, finishing at ‘the Ship of the Fens’- Ely Cathedral - which dominates the open landscape for miles around.

The walk length includes the 0.7 mile walk back to the station from the cathedral. Optional pub stop at the end of the walk. Bring a packed lunch.

Terrain: Paths, embankments, small section of pavement

Travel: Take 9:54 from London Kings Cross, arrive at Waterbeach at 11:03

Buy return to Ely.
