Annual Holiday New York City Hike!
Details
Join us for our big annual Holiday New York City Hike, this time meeting again in New York Penn Station!
This time, after meeting at Penn Station, we'll jump a subway to the north. The plan will be to start in the vicinity of 100th Street. We'll head to the east, and visit Randall's Island. We'll do some of the walkways around that we had not covered on previous trips, and then follow the Bronx side of the Harlem River to the north to the High Bridge. We'll then cross back over, and if there is good time, we will head back to the south along walkways on the Manhattan side of the river. We can otherwise play it by ear then depending on time and mood of the group.
As usual, I'll plan on doing at least 15 miles.
It's pretty easy for anyone to cut out early at any time on this.
Upon meeting, USE THE RESTROOM IMMEDIATELY. In the past, the waits for the use of restrooms with huge groups resulted in more than hour wait times, so be prepared to go on the go on an urban hike whenever the opportunity arises. The worst part is actually getting started and keeping everyone together.
Everyone should be promptly together no later than 9 am at Penn Station, we'll announce what Subway we are taking north, and take it immediately. Use the time to purchase a metro card at the start to save time.
Food will probably also be on the go, unless we find something not too chaotic and quick. Have something to eat just in case, because a restaurant lunch stop may not work out.
