Join us for this point to point hike that will feature favorite old trails and some new connections between Easton and Wind Gap PA!
This time, we will meet at the Simon Silk Mill, just off of Bushkill Drive, and shuttle with as few cars as possible up to Wind Gap.
From here, we will walk a brief section of road for a tenth of a mile to a rather new trail connection.
We'll continue through part of the wooded section of Ballas Park to the former Nazareth Branch of the Lehigh and New England Railroad, which we'll follow south.
We'll reach Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center and continue through on the rail grade, then take side trails that will lead though more uplands as well as along the Bushkill Creek. We'll pass through Henry's Woods, and then make our way to the south part of the park.
Here, we'll pick up a new trail connection somewhat recently opened to Belfast.
Depending on the status of new trail connections, we'll either follow that, or we'll continue south on another short road walk to Belfast Junction. Here'll we will pick up the rail trail south into Stockertown.
There is a missing bit through Stockertown, but it is being connected. Some of it is complete, some is not.
Regardless, we have a route that will be a bit different heading southbound anyway, which will take us past an historic church, along some back streets, on some paved development trails, and then down through meadows of Rappolt Field.
We'll turn from here along one more brief road walk to reach the former Easton and Northern rail line, and this will take us almost all the way back to Simon Silk Mill to finish the hike. Distance will be about 15 miles.
There are a couple of bar and grill places in Stockertown that we might make our lunch stop.
