It's been a long time since we've done a more difficult hike like this, but it's been a long time coming.
Since the son is going to "Trunk or Treat" with his mom, it is an opportunity to complete the final difficult section of the Conestoga Trail, as well as the next bit of the Mason-Dixon Trail in our rebooted series that we'd put on hold.
This promises to be challenging, but also very rewarding with views, history, and more.
After meeting at Pequea boat launch, we will shuttle with as few vehicles as possible to our start point north of the Norman Wood Bridge.
We'll follow the Mason-Dixon Trail up to an overlook, and then down through a scenic gorge with small waterfalls. We then get on the towpath of the old Susquehanna and Tidewater Canal to Lock 12. This is the southern terminus of the Conestoga Trail.
We'll follow the Conestoga Trail across Norman Wood Bridge, and then up though lands to the north. Undulating terrain and beautiful vistas are throughout the section.
Pinnacle Rock and House Rock are among the best views on the entire trail. We'll also pass through lovely Tucquan Glen, and pass the Wind Cave, largest tectonic cave east of the Mississippi.
Those wanting more terrain and a bit more of a challenge than the other more recent hikes are going to love this one.
There are no food stops along the way. In fact, other than Norman Wood Bridge and two access roads, we won't even be crossing any roads on this one.
Distance will be normal, just over 15 miles. If needed, contact me at 908 343 8374
